- Visit Thailand’s most famous floating market, Damnoen Saduak
- Discover how the Bridge over the River Kwai depicts events from World War II
There is also a lot to see outside Bangkok. You will be surprised how quickly that metropolis seems forgotten, how beyond the city limits the real Thailand unfolds. You will experience and see that on this tour where the Thailand of floating markets gets a face, and where the Bridge over the River Kwai depicts events from World War II.
You will be picked up at your hotel in Bangkok to first head to the Damnoen Saduak floating market. Not far before reaching the market, we board long-tail boats to navigate the narrow canals that connect the main sites here to the market.
At this floating market, the largest in the wide area, you enter another world. Deftly, the Thai sail their boats with all kinds of merchandise around. Lots of fruit is on offer, but there are also boats on which noodles or other delicacies are prepared. If you want you can take one of the paddle boats to cruise through the market.
After browsing the market, the tour continues to Kanchanaburi.
During the Japanese occupation of Thailand, a railway line was built between Thailand and Burma to supply Japanese troops in Burma. That work was carried out in degrading conditions by prisoners of war and local workers, more than 100,000 of whom died during the forced labour.
'The Bridge on the River Kwai' in Kanchanaburi is (thanks to the film of the same name) the most famous part of that death railway. As well as the bridge, you'll visit the small but insightful museum and the main war cemetery. This commemorates the prisoners of war who died on the job.
After this, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Bangkok.
